Concrete Floors.

Concrete Floors being poured today! So I was feeling a little afraid about how it will all work out but Matt and Dan and the Flying Turtle Cast Concrete crew know what they're doing. This morning they started at dawn and finished prepping the sub-flooring with overlay paper, wire mesh, and wire grid. It all looked much more complicated than I would ever have guessed.
Here is the bedroom hallway ready to receive the concrete:

The truck arrived with our messy wet concrete mix... A large hose was used to get the mix from the truck to the inside of the house where it was poured out:

This process seemed to require about 8 men down in the little tiny hallway but they did get the job done.
Here is a look at the hall before it was troweled:

And here is Dan, troweling out the other back hallway:

This took them all day long. The kitchen side of the house will be done next week, and the main living room will follow later.  After it's poured, the concrete will have to cure up for at least 4 weeks.  Then the finishing will begin.  We have chosen to have it polished to a very smooth satiny look which really brings out the color and depth of the material.  These photos don't show that because the floors are still far from finished but hopefully next month we'll have photos of the finished product to share.

  1. Did you have to request a special concrete mix to result in a nice finish after polishing? Was it the same company pouring the concrete and polishing it?
